The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut! is Tomorrow!

I don't know if any of you are aware, I wasn't, but tomorrow (Feb. 7th) is the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut! If you don't know what that is (cause I didn't) that is when people all over the country hold an emergency earthquake drill. According to their website 12.5 million people were registered to participate in the drill last year and hopefully this year there will be even more getting prepared!

Here's the drill: At 10:15 a.m. on February 7, 2013 everyone will "Drop, Cover, and Hang On", practicing their earthquake preparedness at the same time.

-DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!)
-Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and
-HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops!

Their website also gives details about what to do if there isn't a desk or something near by (i.e. crouch inside the corner of a building, cover face & head with arms, etc.). I found the video below on their site, it gives a really good overview of what you should do during an earthquake to keep yourself safe. Watch it, remember it, and practice it (whether tomorrow or another day!

So if you see a bunch of people, randomly acting crazy and dodging under a desk, that's probably why... that, or the voices told them to and you should probably back away slowly. Either way, practice safety and remember, in case of an earthquake Drop, Cover& Hold On!
